Wes Humpston is best known as the artist who created the artwork for Dogtown Skateboards throughout the 1970s. Humpston worked at the infamous Zephyr Surf Shop, ground zero for the Dogtown team and the scene writ large. As the nexus for Dogtown and Z-Boys skate gang, Humpston worked alongside Craig R. Stecyk III to help create the outlaw imagery and mythos associated with the scene. In 1975, Humpston started Dogtown Skateboards with Jim Muir. His style meshed Mexican gang graffiti with Eastern mysticism, establishing a graphic style that has since been widely imitated.
